Dear All Staff

I am writing to let you know personally that I have recently stood down, or is it retired, from the position of Chair of Beaver Community Trust. Having become the Minister of South Ashford Baptist Church in 1998 I soon became a part of Kiddie Kapers which in those days ran from the Church Hall. Soon afterwards the vision for a bigger and better early years provision was grasped by us in partnership with the Sure Start Programme which was arriving in the area, to create what we all know now as Beaver Community Trust!

I formally became Chair of the Trust upon its incorporation in November 2002 and have had the privilege of supporting it, the community and of course you since then. However with my ever growing responsibilities in Tenterden and feeling that it was the right time to hand over, I am delighted that the Board have unanimously elected one of our existing Trustees, Josh Whiten, to the position of Chair of BCT.

I have worked with Josh on the Board for some years now and we are delighted that he has agreed to step up to the plate!! I know I hand over to someone who is passionate and caring and will bring a new energy to see BCT go on to even bigger and better things. I commend Josh to you and ask that you continue to give him the great support you have given to me over the years.

In these days of austerity many Charities are finding life hard. We too have been greatly affected in these difficult financial times but the one thing that inspires me and gives me great hope for the future is that BCT is no ordinary Charity, we are a family. The unique blend of Church, Children’s Centres and Community ensures that we are and will remain a family in so many different ways, something I have strived to achieve and hopefully maintain in my time as Chair. Of course such achievement cannot happen without the support of you all and so I want to thank you for that support and encouragement, for you friendliness towards me and for embracing the BCT ethos in such a wonderful way.

I am delighted to say that the Board have kindly offered me a less demanding role as a co-opted Trustee for the immediate future. This means that although I won’t be a part of the full Board I will still be available to give my support and advice as and when needed, so of course you haven’t seen the last of me, yet!!

Best wishes to you all
Jerry
Jerry Newson Revd
